Nieuw Land National Park

Flevoland has its own National Park: the Nieuw Land National Park.
The park consists of four areas of natural beauty and is the world’s largest man-made nature park.

Oostvaardersplassen

The peace and quiet, space and abundance of food in this area ensure that the number of different animals you can encounter here continues to expand. This is where you will meet wild horses, cattle and deer, crossing the planes in the Oostvaardersplassen nature reserve. Discover the contrast between rugged nature, man-made polder and the wilderness close to the city.

Lepelaarplassen

Lepelaarplassen nature reserve is an oasis for marsh birds and water birds. Numerous species of birds stop off here throughout the year. The ditches, burns and pools provide ideal hunting grounds for the great egret, the grey heron, the spoonbill and the bittern. In excess of two hundred different bird species have been spotted here in the lakes, reed fields and wet grasslands!

Markermeer

The Markermeer lake is a beautiful area for water sports. Few other spots in the Netherlands can compete with the area for its facilities. Experienced water sports enthusiasts will be in their element here. In the quieter days, smaller vessels also have a wonderful opportunity to sail on the Markermeer lake.

Marker Wadden

The Marker Wadden islands will continue to be developed in the Markermeer lake over the next few years. Using sand, clay and silt dredged from the Markermeer lake, new land and shallows are being created to provide a rich habitat for fish and birds. Visitors also will find this a wonderful and exciting place to explore. It boasts a natural harbour, walking routes, bird hides and a beach; a superb place to blow away the cobwebs from your mind, for walking and for bird spotting.
