Walking the Pioneer Trail
The Pioneer Trail takes you straight through Flevoland, across what was once the seabed of the Zuiderzee, which has been dry for just half a century. This journey leads you through forests and wetlands, interspersed with panoramic views of endless lowlands. The route features many unpaved paths winding along fields, ditches, and grassy dikes.
Stage 5: Nagele to Swifterbant
Stage 5 stretches from Nagele to Swifterbant. The route crosses the Ketelbrug over the Ketelmeer, where conditions can be wild and blustery when the wind picks up. On calmer days, it’s a paradise for birdwatchers. The trail then continues into the river dune area near Swifterbant, an ever-changing landscape of grasslands, woodlands, farmland, and traditional farms.
