The Kamperhoek became the first nature development project in the Netherlands. This spot had served as a sand depot after reclamation, of which nothing more than a wet spot remained. A pond was dug and the swamp was provided with a quay. A pump has maintained the water level ever since. Many migratory birds and migratory songbirds use the island and the reed marsh as a resting and roosting place. So does the reed marsh on the west side and the moist to wet forest to the east of the lake. There is an island in the plaza with a bank swallow wall on top.

Limited access, dogs not allowed.
