The Voorsterbos also contains boulder clay from the penultimate ice age in the soil. This does not allow water to pass through easily, which meant that the area was not suitable for agriculture. That is why it was given a new purpose as a forest area. The foresters planted various trees there, because they did not know which species would grow well. From the cycle path, take a look at the variety of tree species in the Voorsterbos.

The Voorsterbos is a popular spot for walking and cycling, but also for a day out with the children or a holiday. At Speeltuin Buitengewoon de Voorst, children can enjoy hours of fun with go-karts, bouncy castles, zip lines and many other activities. And it's free! Right next to the playground is Restaurant Buitengewoon de Voorst, where you can have a drink on the terrace while keeping an eye on the children and then enjoy a tasty meal together afterwards.

Want to stay longer than a day? Then choose a stay at Recreatiepark De Voorst, where you can camp in your own tent, camper van or caravan in the woods and on the Zwolse Vaart, or rent a chalet or lodge. Go paddleboarding or canoeing on the Zwolse Vaart canal, where you will pass various jetties with information boards that tell you more about the history and nature of the area you are sailing through. Would you rather swim in clear water? Then take a dip in the recreation park's swimming pool.
