The Pioneer Trail: A 200-kilometre Adventure
The Pioneer Trail is a long-distance walking route stretching an impressive 200 kilometres, cutting through Flevoland across the former seabed of the Zuiderzee. It takes you on a journey from Steenwijk in Overijssel to Muiden in North Holland, passing through forests and wetlands, interspersed with sweeping views of endless lowlands. The route predominantly follows unpaved paths alongside fields, ditches, and grassy dikes.
Stage 6: Swifterbant to Batavialand
Stage 6 begins in Swifterbant and leads through the Zuigerplaspark, continuing into a relatively young forest near Lelystad. The trail arrives at Batavialand, where the proud reconstruction of the VOC ship Batavia stands magnificently in the water. Further along, the route hugs the Lelystad coastline, offering spectacular views over the expansive Markermeer.
