The spacious ‘De Grote Zilverreiger’ bird hide, opened by the Queen’s Commissioner (Flevoland) on 10 December 2005, is constructed to a unique design. The hut provides excellent views over the wide expanse of water and reed lands. There’s ample opportunity here for spotting bearded reedlings, bitterns, water rails and other birds who find their ideal biotope here. The route has been made accessible for wheelchair users.
The De Grote Zilverreiger bird hide is located at the Oostvaardersdijk dyke in Lelystad adjacent to the 28,0-location marker. You can park your car on the other side of the dyke. The Julianapad path starts at the bottom of the dyke, a five-minute walk along which will bring you to the bird hide.
