Marker Wadden

The new archipelago Marker Wadden has been realised in the Markermeer. It is a robust new nature area with a favourable habitat for plants, birds and fish. And people also enjoy this special area.

A new nature reserve

A paradise for birds and fish

Marker Wadden is still developing. Not so strange, considering that until 2016 there was only water here. The new nature islands have been constructed with sand, clay and silt from the Markermeer. All this to contribute to the nature restoration of the Markermeer. New nature will develop on this new group of islands with natural shores. Not only above, but also below the water. A natural paradise for fish and birds. And the main island is also a wonderful recreational island for people.

A day on Marker Wadden

Go for a stroll or do bird watching

The first island of Marker Wadden is already open to the public. With a natural harbour, hiking trails, bird watching huts, a restaurant and a beach. A wonderful place to get a breath of fresh air, go for a walk and birdwatch. You can reach Marker Wadden with your own boat, of course, but there is also a ferry.

Make the most of your stay

Of course, once you've decided to visit Marker Wadden, you'll want to make the most of your time on the island. If you book well in advance, you can stay in one of Landal GreenParks' island cottages, so your stay on this newest piece of the Netherlands doesn't have to be just a day trip. But if you do go for a day trip, consider walking the 3.4-kilometre “Vogelvluchtroute Marker Wadden” walking route. Want to walk a little longer? Then choose “Coastal Route Marker Wadden” of 7.2 kilometres in length. Be sure to take a look in one of the bird-watching huts and enjoy a well-earned drink at the beach pavilion.
