Oud-Kraggenburg is a former island/peninsula in the Zuiderzee, with a lighthouse keeper’s house. A house with a beacon or lighthouse, built on a mound. At the foot of the mound, there is a small inland port, also called a port of refuge, where once upon a time sailing ships and steamboats could shelter from mist and storm.

Oud-Kraggenburg lies as an island in the landscape, raised high above the fields and the cycle path and far removed from the transit routes. The basalt dykes around the mound form a protective rampart around the picturesque house with the white gable and green shutters. Anyone arriving from the west or northwest by bicycle will see a cast-iron clock on the edge of the roof that once served to warn about mist. The lighthouse that stands on top of the house with its red roof is visible from a great distance. Inside the house, the well in one of the rooms is a striking detail of the interior. If you look out from a window in this part of the house, you can see a well in the garden. The two wells are joined together. Standing on the mound reveals a stunningly wide vista.

This area is only accessible during Open Monument Day. On all other days, the grounds are closed to the public.
