Eemmeer Route

3 hour (48.0 km)

This cycle route starts from the De Eemhof TOP hub point; the southernmost point of Flevoland. Take a look around here, you’ll probably feel you’ve stumbled into a southern French harbour town. This varied cycle route guides you past a diverse landscape; from dense woodlands and vast fields to marshy nature reserves. The long, straight-as-a-die Eemmeer dyke, with its coloured windmills, is one of the Flevoland polder landscape’s most recognised icons. What few people know is that it is also an area of rich cultural and historical importance. It is located on the river Eem’s former catchment area. De Laakse Slenk was once a prehistoric watercourse that has been reopened. Numerous old cooking ware, pans and fire pits have been unearthed, as well as remains of old merchant ships, so-called Kogges. Their locations and sizes are marked with poles.
