The Horsterwold is the largest (over 3,700 hectares) continuous deciduous forest in Western Europe. An ideal area to enjoy peace and space. An extensive network of paths and routes awaits you. Stand eye to eye with deer, wild horses and foxes or the numerous birds that inhabit the area. Such a large area is also full of special places and sights with a story. Discover them by bicycle, on foot, on horseback or from a canoe.

With all its variety, the Horsterwold is a place to fully enjoy. The wealth of plants, tree species, animals and mushrooms is constantly expanding. This also offers enormous opportunities for wood production. For those who love forests and enjoy immersing themselves in peace and vastness, the Horsterwold is a wonderful place full of possibilities.  In the construction and design of the Horsterwold, careful thought has been given to people's experience needs. Paths and other facilities are plentiful but not everywhere equally so. Silent Core the heart of the Horsterwold comprises the 1100 hectares. A unique area where you can stroll everywhere in the footsteps of the herd of wild Konik horses. They ensure that the enormous variety of forest, thicket, grassland and swamp is not lost. And for those with reduced mobility, a semi-paved path also runs through the area.

Beaches and foreshore. The water of the border lakes and the forests of Horsterwold meet in a special way at the beaches and forelands. An extensive strip of sand outside the dikes with beaches to enjoy the sun, but also varied patches of dry and wet nature that attract numerous species of dragonflies. There are even small heaths to be found, which you might not expect in Flevoland.
