Horsterwold

One of the most exceptional woods in Flevoland is the Horsterwold forest. This is where you can walk among the towering poplars, the ferns, mosses and creepers. And with a bit of luck you will come across a herd of wild Konik horses.

The Netherlands’ largest deciduous forest

The Horsterwold forest is one of the largest continuous deciduous forests in the Netherlands. This is a remarkable place boasting an enormous diversity of plants, trees and animals. There’s something here for everyone to discover. For example, there are some truly beautiful walking routes. If you are the more sporting type, mount your all terrain bike and go for it. Children are guaranteed a wonderful time here in the De Zevensprong play woods, where they are free to climb, scramble, build dens and dig holes and much more besides. Or join one of the safari trips – on foot, over water or in the eco-cart - organised by the forestry commission.

TIP! Feeling adventurous? Spend the night on the Campanula, an open area with timber huts on stilts where you are free to camp. Or how about afloat on a water raft – the thousand and one star hotel – right in the heart of the silent Stille Kern. Exciting!
