    Space and tranquillity. But occasionally a bit rough. That’s the IJsselmeer lake. For the experienced water sports enthusiast this is a superb place to sail. The IJsselmeer lake is located on Flevoland’s north-western coast, to the right of the Lelystad-Enkhuizen dyke. This is the Netherlands’ largest lake: over 1100 km². It came into being when the Zuiderzee was sealed off.

    When the weather is quieter, this is the ideal place for new sailors to cut their teeth. The Markermeer lake is located on the south-western side of the dyke between Lelystad and Enkhuizen. Therefore between the provinces of Noord-Holland and Flevoland. The Markermeer lake stretches to around 700 km² and forms a true paradise for water sports aficionados.

  • Bordering lakes


    The bordering lakes are on Flevoland’s east side. The lakes were created when the IJsselmeer was drained. This is an outstanding location for leisure pursuits with a wealth of campsites and marinas in the vicinity. With more than 90,000 hectares of water, this is the Netherlands’ largest easy sailing area.

    Tempting sailing opportunities are not only to be found encircling Flevoland. The province itself also boasts a range of waters and lakes where you can for example rent a canoe, a paddle board or small boat to enjoy a great day of water sports fun. Bring your own boat to Flevoland, the world’s largest polder!
