• Climate Forest

The Climate Forest was planted in 2008. Over the space of a week, around 6000 people planted no less than 60,000 trees and 20,000 shrubs in the form of a heart. This was an initiative by Sophie Hilbrand and Filemon Wesselink, two Dutch TV presenters. The idea received wide support, and Princess Máxima was the most famous guest. Thanks to Sophie and Filemon and the many others who lent a helping hand there, a thriving forest now exists as a living symbol for a better climate.

  • Lovink Pumping Station

The Lovink pumping station is a national monument, and one of the three pumping stations used to drain East Flevoland. Various pumping stations are still hard at work keeping the deeper-lying polders dry. Dronten’s landscape lies at an impressive five metres below sea level.

  • The Blue Dreamer

‘De Blauwe Dromer’ (The Blue Dreamer) is a circular dyke which encloses a small stretch of inland water. With dyking, names are used for the various dykes, such as ‘watcher dyke’ (the outer dyke) and ‘sleeper dyke’ (the inner dyke); names which directly inspired the title ‘The Blue Dreamer’. The artwork was designed by Jacqueline Verhaagen and created in 2002.
