Enjoy a walk while listening to the special Schokland audio tour. Experience the past, the present and the future of the former island of Schokland. Two MP3 audio routes are available.
Hear the sea again on Schokland. At the request of Flevo-Landschap, the 'Prins te Paard' site specific theatre group has created two audio tours. They will whisk you away to either the northern tip or the southern tip of this former island. Along the way you will hear tales from 150 years ago when the island was evacuated.
The Schokland residents disassembled their houses and loaded them on to their boats. More stories follow, from shipworms via a mangrove forest in the Netherlands to an unexpected cup of coffee at the lighthouse keeper's house. Anna Enquist recites a poem and Erwin Kroll, the famous weatherman, makes predictions long into the future. And all accompanied by the sounds of the sea.
Both audio routes can be listened to via this page (or via SoundCloud). MP3 players are also available (with instructions) to rent from the Middelbuurt Museum, or from the Flevoland landscape visitors centre in the 'Gesteentetuin' rock garden. The MP3 player and route map will lead you to a number of points where you can listen to audio clips. This allows you to complete the walk at your own pace.
